RR Auctions John Lennon Photo Signed and Inscribed with Caricature

RR Auctions John LennonHighly desirable glossy 8 x 10 Apple publicity head-and-shoulders photo of Lennon in a dark shirt and sunglasses, signed and inscribed in the lower border in blue ballpoint, “To Cathy, Love, John Lennon 74,” adding a caricature after his signature. Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 17.5. In fine condition, with scattered light surface creases, none affecting the signature. It appears this portrait was the basis for the sleeve cover art of Lennon’s single ‘Mind Games.’ Used circa 1973-74, this period was known as Lennon’s ‘Lost Weekend’ in which he separated from Yoko Ono, and was the topic of many tabloid pages for his drunken exploits while living in Los Angeles. Photo is accompanied by two original 45 rpm sleeves for ‘Mind Games,’ both with versions of this image. Provenance: Christie’s 2008 (original tags affixed to back). Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.

RR Auction William Henry Harrison Practically Nonexistent Ink Signature

RR Auction William Henry HarrisonPractically nonexistent ink signature, as president, “W. H. Harrison,” on an off-white 5.25 x 2.5 vellum slip clipped from a larger document, signed by Harrison above the printed heading, “By the President,” and also signed by Secretary of State Daniel Webster. In fine condition, with old mounting remnants to the reverse slightly showing through. Accompanied by a photocopy of a 1987 letter from Robert Batchelder, stating the signature was originally acquired by Joseph Nourse, a register of the US treasury and collector of presidential autographs, almost all of which were clipped signatures or partial documents. Batchelder concludes that this signature was likely taken from an unissued ship’s paper. With his presidency lasting only one month, anything signed by Harrison as Chief Executive is extraordinarily rare: this is just the second of such that we have offered in 30 years. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.

RR Autograph Auction Early Colt Single-Action Army Revolver

RR Autograph Auction Early Colt Single-Action Army Revolver#28825, cal. .45 Colt, 7.5″ barrel with a dark bore and worn rifling. The front sight slightly altered, the barrel has the early italic marking for factory address. The serial numbers match on the frame and gripstraps, the last two digits are visible on the barrel, and the cylinder number is illegible. The revolver retains all of a good-looking nickel-plated refinish with a clear two-line patent marking on the frame and a partially legible barrel address. The cylinder and ejector housing have some light pitting under the finish. The one-piece walnut grip is in good condition and shows moderate wear. The mechanism functions well. This old Colt S.A.A. was made in 1876, the same year as the Custer Massacre.

RR Auctions Edvard Grieg C. F. Peters Business Check

RR Auctions Edvard GriegNorwegian composer and pianist (1843–1907). Rare C. F. Peters business check, 11 x 4.25, filled out in another hand in German and signed and dated by Grieg for 1000 marks, April 10, 1906. In fine condition, with three vertical folds (one passing through a single letter of the signature and one with slight tape-repaired separation to top). The German music publishing house C.F. Peters began publishing Grieg’s works when he was just 19, and continued supporting him throughout his life, providing him with housing, a study, and generous remuneration for each of his new works. The relationship became so close that Grieg referred to Max Abraham, the owner of the company, as his ‘adoptive father.’ Between its rarity—this is the first Grieg check we have ever offered—and the terrific musical and biographical associations, this is a truly remarkable piece. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
