Mary Blair concept painting of Alice and Dinah from Alice in Wonderland

Image measures 8 x 4.25, with overall dimensions of 12.5 x 11.5. In fine condition, with a single tack hole to each corner tip. Much of Blair’s art blurs the lines of naturalism and veers towards abstraction, her emotionally palpable style was a personal favorite with Walt Disney. A beautiful image of an early character rendering by one of Disney’s most trusted and talented artists.

Lady and the Tramp production cel setup from Lady and the Tramp

(Walt Disney Studios, 1955) Original production cel setup featuring the main characters from Lady and the Tramp, showing them sharing a plate of spaghetti together as they famously do in what has become the best-known scene in the film. The character cels have been trimmed to image and applied to a hand-painted custom prepared background, accomplished at a later date, to create a marvelous setup for display. The Lady image (trimmed from the actual Bella Notte scene) measures 5 x 5, Tramp (trimmed from another scene) measures 2.75 x 5.75, and table measures 11 x 7.75, with overall dimensions of 16 x 11.75. Early Snow White production cel from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

(Walt Disney Studios, 1937) Very early original preliminary production cel featuring Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, created circa 1935, showing her in a long pink dress with a blue bow in her hair. This rarity is on a full animation cel, complete with peg holes and a cel number at the bottom right, not to be mistaken for a color model. Image measures 2.25 x 5, with overall dimensions of 12.25 x 9.75. In fine condition. This is the earliest example of a Snow White production cel that we have ever seen. Walt Disney changed this design of the princess because he felt it was too ‘cartoony’—too reminiscent of Betty Boop—to be used for final production in a more serious film. This may be the earliest animated Snow White cel in existence. An extremely rare historical piece.

The Evil Queen production cel from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

(Walt Disney Studios, 1937) Original production cel featuring the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, showing the villain flipping through a book of potions. The cel has been trimmed to image and applied to an airbrushed background as prepared by the Disney Studio to be sold at the Courvoisier Galleries. Image measures 7.5 x 7, with a mat opening of 8 x 9.5. This piece is also framed to an overall size of 20 x 21.5. In fine condition, with a chip to a corner of the frame. This image is from the scene when the Evil Queen is in her potions room and looking through her red ‘disguises’ book in order to change her appearance to that of the old witch to trick Snow White into taking the poison apple—this cel depicts the exact moment that she is deciding which spell to use for the task. A magnificent piece from this historically important animated feature.
