Elvis Presley Signed Choice 1957 Concert Program Portrait

Handsome vintage image of Presley glancing over his shoulder, surrounded by a border of guitars, musical notes, and hearts, taken from the inside of one of Presley’s 1957 Photo Folios, nicely signed in blue ballpoint. In fine condition. Accompanied by a copy of a letter of provenance from the widow of Jerry Ledford, Elvis’s Second Lieutenant while at Fort Hood, stating that her husband was in the Army and assigned to basic training at Fort Hood at the same time Elvis was there, and that he occasionally helped to ‘smuggle’ Elvis off of the base in an effort to evade fans and paparazzi; near the end of his training, Elvis signed pages of a souvenir photo booklet for them. This was Presley’s third concert program, used to heavily promote Jailhouse Rock, and is considered quite rare, as he greatly reduced his touring schedule from that of the previous year. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.

RR Auctions Elvis Presley King of October Auction

Elvis Presley King of October Auction

Sales in the October auction of R&R Enterprises were led by the bidding on a Levi Strauss Jacket screen worn by Elvis Presley in the 1957 movie “Loving You” with the winning bid of $10627. The denim jacket came with a sewn in label in the inside reading “# 101212 E. Presley 1/57,” a Paramount Studios wardrobe stamp and even a Paramount studios red laundry tag.

Bob Eaton, of R&R, noted “bidding was excellent this month across the entire range of items, from signed photographs to ephemera. Once again we have seen the value in both classic signatures and screen worn costumes.”

Early US Presidents continue to hold strong with an outstanding franked envelope adressed to a Revolutionary War officer and signed by George Washington reaching $7256 and a Thomas Jefferson letter from Monticello going under the hammer at $4283.

Gone with the Wind also proves a perennial favorite with a rare vintage glossy 8 x 10 portrait from Gone With The Wind showing Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, signed perfectly and flawlessly in-person in blue fountain pen selling for $6073. And a transparent green tinged glass vase that decorated the library at Tara and the front entrance of the hallway in the Atlanta house of the Butlers closed at $5140.

Other favorites did well; a wonderful Walt Disney signed vintage photograph sold at $6275; a screen worn costume of Barbara Streisand as Fanny Brice from Funny Lady reached $5704; a screen worn dress from Bewitched closed at $3422; a Babe Ruth signed baseball sold at $2925; and the Beatles $3115.

One of the rarer items — in fact R&R reports it is the only one they have seen in 25 years — the 1918 autograph of Broadway actress Jeanne Eagels who died at 35 from alcohol and drugs sold for $2422.

The next auction closes at midnight on Wednesday November 20th. The auction preview will be featured on the web site, http://www.rrauction.com, beginning Monday October 21st and the full auction will go online October 28th. The November auction will feature a special Beatles and Rock Legends section. Each item is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and R&R’s guarantee.

Every month R&R auctions almost 2000 items of celebrity memorabilia, autographs and ephemera. In business for over 20 years, R&R is based in New Hampshire with 30,000 buyers world-wide. The company’s web site provides a full description and illustration of every item and can be found at http://www.rrauction.com. To register to bid, collectors must contact the office, or apply online, to gain their R&R bidder number. The R&R monthly auction covers presidents to sports personalities to music stars past and present.
